  • IIT Gandhinagar invites applications for the position of Project Associate under the Urban Flooding Module of the AI Centre of Excellence Project. Please find the details below.
 
  • IIT Gandhinagar is leading the Urban Flood Mitigation Module of the AI Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Cities. The initiative supports research and deployment of AI solutions to mitigation urban flooding in Indian cities by partnering with municipalities and engineering departments.
  • We are looking for highly motivated Project Associate to support on-ground coordination, field deployment, and real-world testing of AI-driven urban flood intelligence solutions. This role is designed for someone who is equally comfortable working with technical systems and engaging with on-site stakeholders.
  • The selected candidate will act as the on-ground representative of the IIT Gandhinagar team, supporting deployment, testing, feedback collection, and coordination with local authorities and partners. This is a rare opportunity to work at the interface of AI, urban infrastructure, governance, and real-world decision-making.
  • Location: Gurugram, Haryana (Training for 15 days at IIT Gandhinagar)
  Responsibilities
  • Support coordination between the IIT Gandhinagar research team and on-site project stakeholders for smooth execution of field activities.
  • Assist in understanding operational requirements at the project location and aligning them with deployed analytical and AI-based solutions.
  • Support deployment, testing, and validation of our AI-based flood analysis and decision-support tools in real-world settings.
  • Participate in field visits, site inspections, data collection activities, and operational reviews as required.
  • Observe and document on-ground conditions and share structured inputs,  findings, and analysis with the core technical team.
  • Assist in applying AI/ML outputs in practical operational contexts under guidance from senior researchers.

Required Qualification:

Essential Qualification:

  • B.Tech / M.Tech in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Candidates from other backgrounds with strong relevant technical and domain exposure may also apply.
  • Understanding of machine learning concepts, algorithms, and data-driven workflows.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to engage in field-based work and coordination activities.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Exposure to applied projects involving infrastructure, urban systems, or environmental applications.
  • Familiarity with government-led or public-sector projects and associated processes.
  • Ability to independently observe, document, and communicate field-level observations and technical findings.

Employment Conditions and Benefits:

Contract duration:

  • The appointment will be initially for a period of one year, with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance. As this is part of a multi-year research and deployment programme, extensions are expected for well-performing candidates.

Benefits:

  • ₹45,000 - ₹70,000 per month, depending on qualifications and experience.
