Research associate position in Proximity-induced correlation effects in low dimensional systems

Project Description:

  • As of June 1, 2026, a part-time position is available at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Chair of Analytics on Solid Surfaces, in the research group FOR 5242 “Proximity-induced correlation effects in low dimensional systems”.
  • The position is temporary, ending on May 31, 2029. The contract may be extended by one year. The position is generally suitable for part-time employment. Applications for part-time work will be reviewed to determine if the request can be accommodated within the scope of operational requirements.  
  • The temporary appointment is made in accordance with the provisions of the Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG) and the Saxon Higher Education Act (SächsHSG) in their respective current versions.
Work tasks :
  • Scientific investigations in the subject area of ​​FOR 5242, specifically:
  • Intercalation experiments on epitaxial graphs on SiC
  • Structural determination, spectroscopy and electronic transport
  • Maintenance of a low-temperature scanning tunneling microscope
  • Regular research of relevant specialist literature
  • Processing the data and presenting the results in specialist journals and at scientific events.
You will use your research findings for scientific publications and your own professional development. This is a position for further academic qualification with the goal of obtaining a doctorate.

Essential Qualification:

If you are attracted to working in an interdisciplinary, highly motivated team and engaging academically with a topic of high practical relevance, you should meet the hiring criteria according to § 73 SächsHSG, in particular possessing the following qualifications :
  • Completed university degree in physics or comparable disciplines, which grants access to the corresponding qualification level.
  • Solid knowledge in the field of interface and surface physics as well as low-temperature physics
  • Experience in the field of scanning tunneling microscopy or similar probe techniques

Preferred Qualification:

  • Excellent English language skills are required; German language skills are an advantage.
