Postdoctoral position in the Synthetic Microbiology
Project Description:
- The primary objective of the group is to engineer microorganisms with specific properties, facilitating the synthesis of various products, promoting sustainability in a bio-based economy, and offering solutions to environmental challenges. The group led by Dr. Jan Jamroskovic focuses on studying non-B DNA in bacteria and their interaction with small molecules and proteins.
- We investigate DNA structures to understand their biology, maintenance, and their effects on fundamental cellular processes such as replication and gene expression, and use this knowledge in genetic engineering.

Postdoc will
- Perform cutting edge science using molecular biology, biochemistry and biophysical methods
- Design and execute experiments and perform data analysis and write scientific publications
- Communicate scientific progress through internal meetings within the working group of Synthetic Microbiology, Department of Microbial Genetics and contribute to seminars at the Institute of Molecular Biology.
- Actively participate in writing research and travel grants for postdocs.
- Take part in laboratory administration – market analysis, orders, project management.
- Co-supervise PhD, master and bachelor students
- Secondary objective of the group covers research on antibiotic resistance and development of novel antibiotic drugs

Required Qualification:
Essential Qualification:
- PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Microbiology or related fields
Preferred Qualification:
- Strong technical expertise in protein purification from E. coli and/or B. subtilis.
- Experience with biochemical and biophysical methods for DNA:Protein interactions.
- Interest in bioinformatics.

- Fixed term for two years with a possibility of extension depending on the current projects
Benefits:
- Salary will be set according to the internal rules, and the level of previous experience. Possibility to supplement the salary by current projects.
