Faculty position in Materials Chemistry for Future Batteries

Position Description:

  • As Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor/Full Professor, you will contribute to research and education in materials chemistry and chemical engineering, focusing on future battery technologies.   • The position is part of a strategic initiative from the Swedish government – Competence and Excellence in battery research and education of the transport sector (COMPEL). Within COMPEL, Chalmers, Lund University and Uppsala University are responding to the need to ensure the long-term competitiveness of the automotive industry and Sweden as a whole.   • The position includes a start-up funding package, the size and scope of which will be tailored to the academic level of the successful candidate.
  Your role
  • As a faculty member at Chalmers, you will:
  • Conduct high-impact research on battery materials, including synthesis, processability, and interface engineering.
  • Develop new materials, for example anodes, cathodes, and electrolytes, focusing on performance, scalability and real-world applications.
  • Collaborate with leading academic and industrial partners in Sweden and internationally.
  • Supervise and mentor students at undergraduate, graduate, and PhD levels.
  • Contribute to teaching and curriculum development in chemistry and chemical engineering.
  • Support an inclusive, dynamic, and collaborative academic environment.

Required Qualification:

Essential Qualification:

  • We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in materials chemistry and a passion for battery innovation.
Required qualifications
  • PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven research track record, including publications in leading journals.
  • Experience in battery materials research, including material synthesis, characterization, or process development.
  • Interest in applying research to real-world energy challenges.
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring students.
  • Ability to secure research funding
  • Teaching experience.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience in industry collaboration and technology transfer.
  • Background in scaling up innovations for industrial use.
