Postdoc Position in Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD)

Project Description:

The Soft Matter and Wetting Group headed by Prof. Robin Ras at Aalto University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in thin film deposition for an advanced medical technology that we are planning to commercialize in near future. We are seeking a motivated candidate to join our team. The successful applicant will be involved in the design, fabrication, and testing of functional thin film coatings.   Key responsibilities include:
  • Developing and optimizing advanced surfaces using state-of-the-art thin film technologies
  • Characterizing prepared thin films using scanning electron microscopy and surface wetting methods
  • Analyzing and reporting of obtained results, and planning the future work based on the results
  • Working closely together with the other team members
  • Contributing to the maintenance of the atomic layer deposition tools.

Required Qualification:

Essential Qualification:

  • PhD in one of the following broader experimental areas: physics, chemistry, materials science
  • Experience with thin film deposition using atomic layer deposition is required
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills (fluency in English) and strong collaboration abilities

Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience with surface characterization (contact angle goniometry, electron microscopy, ellipsometry, spectroscopy, etc.) is beneficial

  • The position is full-time and initially funded for one year, with the possibility of extension.

  • The Postdoctoral researcher position will be based in Department of Applied Physics, Aalto University with high-tech facilities in this department along with the facilities in Micronova and OtaNano. OtaNano offers a wide variety of fabrication processes and equipment for micro- and nanostructures. The facilities cover a comprehensive range of equipment, including atomic layer deposition devices, electron microscopy, x-ray scattering, ellipsometry, spectroscopic equipment, etc.
  •  The starting salary is approximately 4130–4550 €/month, depending on experience, and includes occupational healthcare.
