Yonsei University Frontier Fellowship for Postdoctoral Researchers

Overview:

  • a. To accomplish the Yonsei Frontier Lab’s purposes for establishment, such as new globalization of research & education, increase in research achievement, and enhancement of international recognition
  • To strengthen Yonsei’s competitiveness in academic research by recruiting outstanding post-doctoral researchers who can immediately contribute to research results
Preference
  • Preference will be given to applicants if they have applied for the “Outstanding Overseas Scientist Invitation Program Plus (Brain Pool+)” of the National Research Foundation of Korea(NRF) or submit their program application plan for next year.
  • Preference will also be given to first-time applicants who have not previously received support from Yonsei University’s internal research funding programs, including those offered by the Yonsei Frontier Lab.

  • Post-doc researchers who are receiving support from BK21+, General Researcher Support Program – Research Fellow, Academic Next Generation Cultivation Program (Post-Doc domestic training, part-time instructor support, academic research professor), Overseas Outstanding New and Rising Researcher Invitation Program, etc. are not eligible to apply
  • Researchers are allowed to apply for this program simultaneously with the Office of Research Affair’s on-campus post-doc researcher support program but may be selected for only one program
Selection and evaluation process
  • 1st step of evaluation: Requirement pre-screening- Method of evaluation: Program administrators prescreen applicants to ensure compliance with all prerequisites and qualifications.
  • 2nd step of evaluation: Comprehensive evaluation1) Final assessment of applicants by the YFL Selection Committee
  • Major Criteria: Applicant’s scholarly excellence and quality of research design/plan, Sponsoring faculty member’s research achievements
  • Notification of decision: emailed individually after evaluation.

Eligibility:

Criteria for Applicants: Early career foreign researchers
  • Conducting research an overseas* college, university or institution**; and
  • Do NOT hold Korean citizenship; and
  • Current graduate student(Ph.D. candidate) anticipated to complete a PhD by the relevant academic year; or
  • Ph.D. have been completed/granted/conferred within the last 7 years at the time of application.
(2) Criteria for Applicants: Academic achievements
  • Ph. D. (candidate) in Science and Engineering fields must have published more than 2 papers within the last 2 years
  • Ph. D. (candidate) in Humanities and Social Science fields must have published more than 1 paper in JCR Q1 level academic journals in their discipline within the last 2 years
  • ※ Papers will only be acknowledgeable when they have received their Acceptance Letter at the time of application
3) Criteria for Sponsoring Faculty
  • Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation (form 2) from a sponsoring mentor/supervisor who is:
  • Full-time faculty member on the Sinchon/International Campus
  • Capable of providing the applicant a certain amount of salary/stipend from one of their own external research projects which is managed by Yonsei University Industry Foundation so that the applicant can conclude a labor contract with the Foundation.

Employment Conditions and Benefits:

Contract duration:

  • 1 year (with the possibility for second and third year by renewal; the renewal of the appointment requires reapplication through the same procedure at the end of the initial appointment. Maximum 3 years)

Benefits:

  • Minimum Post-Doc annual stipend of 52 million won, of which the sponsoring faculty will bear 30% or more of the amount of YFL support funding (YFL’s funding: 40 million)
